Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif

Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dubai Health and President of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU); he has led Dubai Health, Dubai’s first integrated academic health system since its establishment in 2021.
He is passionate about Dubai Health’s mission to elevate the standard of healthcare by seamlessly integrating care learning, discovery and giving, with a vision to advance health for humanity. Dr. Sharif is responsible for a team of over 11,000 dedicated professionals comprising 6 hospitals, 46 health centers, MBRU and Al Jalila Foundation.

His guiding principle is to treat patients, their families, and caregivers like family, inspiring ‘Dubai Health’s’ primary value of ‘Patient First,’ Dr. Sharif works to instill a culture where the values of respect, empathy, teamwork, integrity, and excellence are lived in practice by all team members.

In addition to his role at Dubai Health, Dr. Sharif is a Visiting Scholar at the Thomas Jefferson University - Sidney Kimmel Medical College - Asano-Gonnella Center for Research in Medical Education & Health Care. Prior to his current role, Dr. Sharif was the founding Vice Chancellor of MBRU, Chair of the Dubai COVID-19 Command and Control Center and has held key roles in various entities including the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

His academic achievements include an MBBS from the UAE University, MSc in Healthcare Management from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI) and a PhD in Public Health focused on Health Systems and Policies Research from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University. His scholarly pursuits have garnered him recognition, notably being the first RCSI Alumni to receive the RCSI’s “Positive Global Impact Award” for his role in establishing MBRU.

Dr. Sharif is actively engaged in various councils and advisory boards, including the UAE Genomics Council, Emirates Research and Development Council, Emirates Drug Establishment Board, and the Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution UAE, Advisory Board.
