Graduate in Engineering Science, Fourah Bay College, Sierra Leone; MA in Urban and Regional Planning Studies, University of Nottingham, UK; postgraduate studies in Project Planning and Appraisal, University of Bradford, UK. Formerly, with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and affiliated funds; Development Planner; 1990-93, Deputy Executive Secretary, UN Capital Development Fund; Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative to 1993-96, Niger and 1996-99, Ghana; 2000-05, Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Director for Africa. Since 2005, current position, leads organization, the regional arm of UN in Africa, with rank of Undersecretary-General; serves on advisory panels of organizations involved in Africa's development; interested in institutional transformation of African Union and successful implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development including Africa Peer Review Mechanism, as critical initiatives for achievement of Millennium Development Goals.
