
The University of Cape Town is a research and teaching university founded in 1829. It is home to a quarter of South Africa's internationally rated researchers. It has some 28,000 students, of which 18% are from more than 100 countries. It is made up of 52% women and 48% men and has some 3,500 permanent employees and six faculties: commerce, humanities, health sciences, law, engineering and built environment, and science. It also has a centre for higher education development and a business school.
