National Grid is a multinational electricity and gas utility company headquartered in London, England. Its principal activities are in the United Kingdom and Northeastern United States. One of the largest investor-owned utility companies in the world, it provides gas to 10 million customers and electricity to 10 million customers in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It owns the high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales and operates the system across Great Britain. It also owns and operates the high-pressure gas transmission system in Britain, operating 7,660 km of high-pressure pipeline, 24 compressor stations and 600 above-ground installations.
