Muangthai Capital Public Company Limited (MTC) is a Thai non-bank financial institution founded in 1992 (originally Muangthai Leasing) by the Patcharachai (formerly Petampai) family, focused on providing microfinance and consumer lending to underserved populations, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas. Listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 2014—when it operated around 500 branches and had a loan portfolio of approximately 7 billion baht (≈USD 200 million)—the company has since expanded rapidly through an extensive nationwide branch network and a collateral-based lending model. By 2026, MTC expects to reach about 9,000 branches and grow its loan book to roughly 200 billion baht (≈USD 5.5–6 billion), serving around 3.7 million active customers and reinforcing its position as a leader in financial inclusion. The Patcharachai family remains the controlling shareholder, holding approximately 68% of total shares, with the company currently having a market capitalization of around 67,300 million baht (≈USD 1.9 billion). MTC is also a constituent of the SET50 index, placing it among the largest listed companies in Thailand.
MTC has further strengthened its international credibility through partnerships with leading global Development Finance Institutions, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), DEG (Germany’s development finance institution), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). In parallel, the company has successfully accessed international capital markets through U.S. dollar Social bond issuances under both Regulation S and Rule 144A formats, demonstrating its ability to meet global investor standards. These achievements position MTC as a globally connected financial institution with diversified funding sources and strong access to international credit markets.
