Gump- & Drahtesel, Bicycles for Africa

Gump- & Drahtesel helps unemployed people reintegrate into the labour market in Switzerland by recycling old bicycles for Africa. Founded in 1993, Velafrica collects disused bicycles in Switzerland, makes them roadworthy again using the labour of unemployed people, and ships the recycled bicycles to its partners in Africa. In 2017 alone, Velafrica exported more than 24,000 bicycles. The sturdy bicycles from Switzerland help the people in Africa to access education and healthcare, and avail themselves of economic opportunities and vocational training.
