Established in 1993, Global Witness has run pioneering campaigns against natural resource-related conflict and corruption and associated environmental and human rights abuses. It seeks solutions to the "resource curse" so that citizens of resource-rich countries can get a fair share of their country's wealth. It was nominated for the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize for its work on conflict diamonds. In 2007, it received the Center for Global Development/Foreign Policy Magazine Commitment to Development Ideas in Action Award.
