BASIX is among the first microfinance institutions in the world to attract commercial equity and debt investments internationally and within India. Since 1996, it has lent over $600 million to the poor. It provides a range of financial services and fee-based support services. It has supported the livelihoods of over two million poor households in 20 states in India. It is now also working in Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, Bhutan and Ethiopia with support from the UNCDF.
