African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank) is a pan-African multilateral financial institution established in 1993 to finance and promote intra- and extra-African trade. As at end-2024, the Bank’s total assets stood at approximately US$35 billion, with shareholders’ funds of over US$7 billion. In 2024 alone, Afreximbank approved more than US$22 billion in financing and disbursed over US$18 billion to African sovereigns, corporates, and financial institutions. The Bank reported net income of about US$974 million in 2024, reflecting strong capital adequacy and operational resilience. In the first half of 2025, Afreximbank’s on- and off-balance-sheet exposures exceeded US$42 billion, underscoring its growing role as a systemically important provider of trade, industrial, and development finance supporting AfCFTA implementation, industrialisation, and Africa’s integration into global value chains.
