Dr. John E. Alarcon is a Civil Engineer with over 17 years of post-graduation industrial experience in the fields of catastrophe modelling from natural hazards, structural engineering and engineering seismology. In addition to his industrial experience he has a PhD from Imperial College London and an MSc and MEng equivalent from National University of Colombia. He has published several papers in international peer-reviewed journals in the field of engineering seismology and has participated in earthquake and wind damage field surveys in Europe, Asia and South America.

John regularly gives presentations at international conferences and also gives lectures on catastrophe modelling for the MSc courses at University College London (UCL). He was Vice-Chairman of the UK-based Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT) from 2012 to 2014, and management committee member from 2008 to 2012.
