Asanga is the Executive Director of Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies (National Think Tank). Prior to this he was the Chairman of Foreign Employment Agency and Fishery Harbours Corporation. Asanga served as a Senior Consultant to Minister of Transport in 2004 and currently is the Advisor to Minister of External Affairs. Before joining Government sector he worked in private sector at Sri Lanka Telecom and Hutchison Lanka. He was selected as a Young Global Leader in 2012 by the World Economic Forum.
