This Is the UK’s Oldest Form of Social Housing and It Could Help People Live Longer

Almshouses were first built in Britain in the 10th century to house people who were poor or sick. Today, 36,000 people live in almshouses in the UK. A study by Bayes Business School draws on a century of data from 15 almshouse communities. It found that, on average, people in almshouses outlive the general population.
