This Egyptian Start-Up Is Recycling Plastic Bags Into Paving Tiles

74,000 tonnes of plastic pollution enter the ocean from Egypt each year. Waste plastic is often discarded in the street or informal dumps or burned, releasing harmful smoke. TileGreen, an Egyptian startup, is recycling plastic bags by converting them into paving tiles. TileGreen shreds plastic bags, then melts them down, compressing them into plastic tiles that are tougher than cement. It sells the tiles to construction companies and property developers for use in outdoor walkways and patios. TilesGreen has already recycled 5 million plastic bags into durable paving tiles and aims to recycle 5 billion by 2025. Here’s more about how TileGreen is recycling plastic bags into paving tiles.
