T-Pylons: UK’s Newest Low-Carbon Electricity Pylons

UK’s latest electricity pylons are the first T-pylons in the world. They’ll carry a new 57km high-voltage electricity line that could link 6 million homes and businesses to low-carbon energy sources as the UK strives to reach net zero by 2050. At just 35 meters tall, they’re two-thirds the size of regular pylons. It’s the UK’s first new transmission tower design for a century. Danish design firm Bystrup modeled it on ski lifts. The T-pylons have a reduced electromagnetic radiation field to limit the impact on communities. The UK commissioned its first pylon design in 1927, and that A-frame design has remained the same for a century – until now. There are almost 22,000 pylons in England and Wales alone. Watch to learn more about T-pylons, the latest electricity pylons in the world.
