Goal: Support companies and governments in navigating global value chain disruption from mega trends related to climate change, geopolitical tensions and technological innovation to increase resilience, agility and sustainability in global value chains, delivering value to all stakeholders
Global value chains are undergoing profound changes and are confronted with disruptive forces – as the Covid-19 pandemic, the sustainability imperative and the increasing geopolitical tensions have demonstrated – with important implications for the manufacturing and production industry and for countries relying on it. Over the last years we have developed a framework to anticipate the ongoing reconfiguration of Global Value Chains and mobilized the global manufacturing community to identify the best responses to disruptions caused by these mega trends and to derive key long-term imperatives for businesses and policy makers to future-proof value chains through new partnerships.
For this, we have brought together Chief Operating and Supply Chain Officers from the manufacturing ecosystem and co-developed the Resiliency Compass, a framework to help organizations assess the resilience of their value chains and define the new priorities and actions needed to prepare for and respond to future disruption. Applying the compass on over 360 companies, we have derived five distinct and industry-agnostic profiles of companies who have adopted similar strategy sets to build resilience. The five profiles include the Collaborator, the Planner, the Enhancer, the Adapter, and the Provider .
Moving forward, to navigate near-term uncertainty but also to strengthen resilience in the long term, both continuous adaptation – to address disruptions as they emerge – and fundamental transformation – to react to a potential re-wiring of global value chains – are required. For that, within the scope of this initiative, organizations are driving a continuous learning journey along the Resiliency Compass and its strategy playbooks and are developing new perspectives on the fundamental global value chain paradigm shift on the horizon.
