Samuel Alemayehu

Chairman, Cambridge Industries Group

Samuel “Sam” Alemayehu is a global entrepreneur and investor building regenerative economies through Cambridge Industries Holdings (CIH), where he serves as Chairman. CIH unites a family of companies reimagining how emerging markets can grow sustainably by eliminating waste, unlocking human potential, and leveraging technology to create abundance.

Through Cambridge Industries Ltd. (CIL), Sam leads Africa’s foremost circular economy company, developing integrated urban ecosystems that transform waste, energy, and resources into engines of sustainable growth. Today, CIL serves more than 50 million people and is on track to reach 150 million people by 2030.

Through Cambridge Industries Ventures (CIV), he invests in the green manufacturing of the future, backing innovations in synthetic biology, renewable energy, advanced materials, and near-zero emission industrial processes. CIV partners with entrepreneurs, corporations, and investors to accelerate the transition to cleaner, more resilient industries.

Through Latent Jobs Ventures (LJV), Sam pioneers the application of artificial intelligence across the Global South. He introduced the concept of "latent jobs," essential roles that never emerged because legacy systems made them economically impossible. By deploying AI to break these barriers, LJV is unlocking a new class of professionals in healthcare, agriculture, law, and engineering. LJV works closely with corporations, innovators, and policymakers to scale these AI-augmented roles and create pathways to inclusive prosperity.

Sam began his entrepreneurial career by launching a startup from his dorm room at Stanford University before joining Venrock Associates as an investor. Over the years, he has built and invested in ventures across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America.

Today, Sam is recognized as a Young Global Leader and Technology Pioneer of the World Economic Forum. He serves on multiple corporate and non-profit boards and advocates for open-source innovation, inclusive growth, and conservation-led economic development.
