Roland Paris

Professor of International Affairs, University of Ottawa

Roland Paris is a Professor of International Affairs at the University of Ottawa. He is also a Research Associate at Chatham House, founding director of the Centre for International Policy Studies, and former Senior Advisor on Global Affairs and Defence to the Prime Minister of Canada. His writings on international security, peacebuilding, and global governance have won several awards and citations, including the Grawemeyer Award for Improving World Order. Previous positions include: Director of Research at the Conference Board of Canada, the country’s largest think tank; Visiting Fellow at the Institut d'études politiques (Sciences Po) in Paris; Visiting Researcher at the Visiting Researcher at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC; Assistant Professor of Political Science and International Affairs at the University of Colorado-Boulder; and Policy Advisor in both the Canadian foreign ministry and the Privy Council (Cabinet) Office. He was also appointed to a group of international experts advising the Secretary General of NATO and was a Global Ethics Fellow with the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. He has received seven awards for public service and teaching.
