Ivan Krastev

Chairman, Centre for Liberal Strategies

Ivan Krastev is a political scientist, Chairman of the Board of the Centre for Liberal Strategies and a permanent fellow at the Institute of Human Sciences in Vienna (IWM Vienna).

He is the founder and member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the board of the International Crisis Group (ICG) and GLOBSEC. He regularly publishes articles in the Financial Times, the New York Times and other international and Bulgarian media.

His latest books are: Is it Tomorrow Yet? Paradoxes of the Pandemic, Allen Lane/Penguin Books, 2020; The Light that Failed, Allen Lane/Penguin Books, 2019, co-authored with Stephen Holmes, won the Lionel Gelber Award for Best English Language Book on International Politics for 2020; After Europe, UPenn Press, 2017; Democracy Disrupted. The Global Politics on Protest, UPenn Press, 2014; In Mistrust We Trust: Can Democracy Survive When We Don't Trust Our Leaders, TED Books, 2013.

His books have been translated into over 20 languages. Ivan Krastev is the winner of the prestigious award for European essays "Jean Amery" for 2020.
