Megakaryon is a biotech venture established to develop platelets from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) for use in blood transfusion. Megakaryon’s process enables mass production of infection-free and low-cost platelets to solve blood donation shortage caused by aging population in developed countries as well as to eliminate illegal blood trade in developing countries.
Received BA in Economics from the University of Tokyo in 1974, and MBA with Distinction from Harvard Business School in 1984. Co-founded BioSurface Technology (later merged into Sanofi), a company that developed regenerated human skin cells for treating severe burns. Also co-founded Outlaw Production, an independent motion picture production studio that has produced, among others, “Sex, Lies and Videotape”, a Grand Prix (Palme d’Or) winning film at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1989.
Recipient of Japan Entrepreneur Award (2019), Forbes Japan Best Start-up Award (2018) and Innovation Award of Japan Society of Northern California (2017).
