With CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research: since 1994, Research Physicist; March 2009 - February 2013, Project Leader (Spokesperson), ATLAS experiment; July 2012, presented the ATLAS results on the search for the Higgs boson in an historic seminar at CERN, which marked the announcement of the discovery of the Higgs boson; since January 2016, Director-General, CERN, the first woman to hold the position. Corresponding Member, Italian Academy of Sciences. Foreign Associate Member, French Academy of Sciences and US National Academy of Sciences. Honorary Member, Royal Irish Academy. Former Member, Scientific Advisory Board, UN Secretary-General. Author or co-author of more than 550 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Has given more than 40 invited plenary talks at major international conferences in the field. Recipient of numerous honours and awards, including: various honorary doctoral degrees; Cavaliere di Gran Croce dell'ordine al merito della Repubblica, Italy; Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics (2013); Enrico Fermi Prize, Italian Physical Society (2013); Medal of Honour, Niels Bohr Institute (2013); Wilhelm Exner Medal (2017). Named on various lists, including: “Top 100 most inspirational women”, The Guardian (2011); “Top 100 most influential women”, Forbes magazine (2013); “Leading Global Thinkers of 2013”, Foreign Policy magazine.
