Barkha Mossaë

Global Shaper, Port Louis Hub, African Union Commission

Barkha is the Blue Economy Advisor to the African Union Commission, focusing on unlocking Africa's blue growth through effective ocean governance and blue economy strategies that emphasise women, youth and innovation.

Previously, Barkha has served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius, where she has managed a range of portfolios: promoting environmental diplomacy with a focus on SIDS priorities; ocean economy and maritime security; African geopolitics, amongst others ,while emphasising innovation and intrapreneurship within the public sector, including through her role with organising the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Trade (IDFT) of Mauritius.

She also co-founded the first Global Shaper led initiative on oceans, #SeeingBlue, which aimed at empowering young islanders, especially youth from coastal areas, to champion their ocean resources and supporting them in developing solutions towards the most pressing challenges faced by our oceans and seas. The initiative later won the Mary Robinson Foundation Climate Justice Award. As the first Curator of the Port Louis Hub, she also promoted a heavy focus on mainstreaming sustainable development including popularising the SDGs locally.
