Formerly: as an Indian Foreign Service officer, served abroad at the Indian Missions in Tehran, Colombo and Geneva, and at headquarters covering bilateral and multilateral issues related to political affairs, security, non-proliferation, technology, development and human rights; India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. 2008-09, Visiting Scholar, Stanford University’s Centre for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC). 2013-16, Head of the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division, Ministry of External Affairs. 2017, helped set up the National Task Force on Artificial Intelligence for India’s Economic Transformation. 2017-18, chaired the Group of Governmental Experts of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) on emerging technologies in the area of lethal autonomous weapon systems, which agreed on a set of Guiding Principles for these technologies in August 2018. Currently, Executive Director and Co-Lead of the Secretariat of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation. Professional interests focus on science, security and international policy learning. Personal interests include creative writing, education, Yoga and sustainable agriculture.
