The Senior Citizen Home Safety Association is the only 100% self-financed NGO in Hong Kong running a 24-hour lifeline and related services for the elderly and chronic invalids. Its Personal Emergency Link Service links up the elderly living on their own and provides them with community resources and services. It serves more than 80,000 people, with more than 200,000 accumulated service users. Its hundreds of call and care staff members and 1,400 trained volunteers have handled more than 9.5 million calls. Since 1996, innovations have been introduced, including 59,500 instances of health advice provided by registered nurses via phone.
