Mishkat is pioneering hydroponic agriculture in Saudi Arabia through its certified organic hydroponic farm. Its aim is to reduce Saudi Arabia's reliance on imported foods for self-sufficiency and food security and cut supply chain waste. Its produce takes 45 minutes to go from harvest to the end-consumer. In retail stores, it uses mini hydroponic vertical farms so crops continue to grow on-site in in-store farms, reducing retail waste from 40% to close to zero. Its farms consume 90% less water than the original design by collecting drainage water, passing it through a filtration system and re-introducing it to plants.
