Founded in 1948, the International Union of Architects (UIA) is a federation of national professional organizations working to unify architects, influence public policies and advance architecture in service of the needs of society. The organization is recognized as one of the only global architecture organizations by most United Nations agencies, including UNESCO, United Nations Centre for Human Settlements, United Nations Economic and Social Council, United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the World Health Organization as well as the World Trade Organization.
