Goonj

Goonj (which means “echo”) is a social enterprise based in India. It is using the vast quantities of materials that the country discards to address basic needs, like clothing and sanitary pads, for village communities across India. It is also repositioning this surplus as a powerful resource for deep-rooted development work on issues including water, infrastructure, agriculture and education. Channelling over 3 million kilograms of cities’ surplus material annually, Goonj's work goes beyond the principles of a circular economy. It is evolving a parallel trash-based economy where everyone is an active stakeholder rather than maintaining a demeaning donor-beneficiary relationship.
