Energy Vault, based in Switzerland, is a technology company that has developed a long duration, utility scale energy storage system. The system enables baseload power from wind or solar plus storage. This is delivered 24/7 and is below the cost of fossil fuels. Through the innovative use of low-cost materials, machine vision software automation and environmental material science, Energy Vault’s breakthrough in economics delivers a levelized cost of storage (LCOS) that is 5-7x cheaper than all other energy storage solutions (including chemical batteries and even pumped hydro). The company unveiled the technology in 2018 and has customer engagements exceeding $9 billion in demand.
