The 3rd largest city in Papua New Guinea, capital of the West Highlands Province, population of 46256;
- Mount Hagen is the “cultural centre” of PNG. It is one of the world’s least explored cities, both culturally and geographically. Traditional culture and beliefs remain strong in the city and its surrounds, and attract some of the most influential international organizations, including UN Human Right Council, WWF etc. It is the origin and remains the host city of the largest cultural gathering of PNG;
- Mt Hagen area has extensive mineral deposit, including gold, copper and significant reserves of oil and natural gas. The area is growing to become a significant energy exporter in the whole country.
- Due to the inadequate infrastructure, the city stays very distinctive and independent on its own; Status of women and children are significantly low.
