Lamis Jomaa

Assistant Professor, American University of Beirut

Dr. Jomaa is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences (FAFS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon. She serves as the co-director of the Refugee Health Program within the Global Health Institute and a member of the Food Security and Rural and Community Development graduate programs at AUB. As a Fulbright scholar, Dr. Jomaa earned her Master’s and doctoral degrees in Nutritional Sciences from the Pennsylvania State University in the US, and was recently appointed as an affiliate assistant professor at her alma mater.
Her research focuses on exploring the determinants of food and nutrition security of vulnerable population groups, and examining the linkages between food insecurity, migration, and human health outcomes. She is also involved in designing and evaluating the effectiveness of community-based nutrition interventions aimed at reducing food insecurity and hidden hunger.
Dr. Jomaa is a member of the American Society of Nutrition, Society of Nutrition Education and Behavior, the Fulbright Alumni Association in Lebanon, and the Lebanese Academy for Nutrition and Dietietics. To date, Dr. Jomaa has received several awards in recognition of her academic, research, and outreach excellence, and in 2018 she was honored to be selected as one of the top World Economic Forum young scientists (under the age of 40) involved in the advancement of science, engineering and technology.
